Overview
MIC, MSF, ROHVA, and SVIA are the powersports industry’s leading not-for-profit trade and education associations in the United States. MIC is the national trade association representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts and accessories, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment firms, media companies, and consultants. MSF promotes safety through rider training and education, operator licensing tests, and public information programs. ROHVA and SVIA are national industry associations promoting safe and responsible use of ROVs and ATVs through training, public awareness campaigns, and state legislation.
We are looking for an experienced Media Relations and Communications Specialist. This position will be based remotely, however the role requires about 4-6 weeks of travel annually to support media opportunities, events, and industry meetings.
The Media Relations and Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in amplifying the voice of the powersports industry’s leading trade and education associations, the Motorcycle Industry Council, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association, and Specialty Vehicle Institute of America, and helping associations members stay informed. The position is responsible for executing strategic media outreach, crafting compelling content for internal and external communications, and supporting key initiatives from across departments that elevate the associations’ profile, promote training and education, and grow ridership.

Key Responsibilities
Media Relations and Outreach
- Develop and execute proactive media outreach strategies to secure coverage in national, trade, and regional outlets, including online outlets, print, TV, radio, and podcasts.
- Pitch positive motorcycle- and powersports-related stories.
- Help coordinate journalists, celebrities, influencers, and other VIP training through our safety organizations.
- Identify and vet celebrities, talent, and influencers who would be great ambassadors of motorcycling and work with them to get earned media placement.
- Help coordinate rides and special events as needed.
- Monitor media coverage and field incoming media requests.
- Support policy engagement across multiple audiences, including legislators, media, member companies, and industry stakeholders.
Writing and Content Development
- Work with our Associations’ Writer to generate content ideas, research and coordinate article ideas, and write and edit articles for the MIC RideReport, Executive Briefs, MSF/ASI/ROHVA eNews, social media content, RideWithUs.com, and other association websites.
- Write news releases, media alerts, and help with other messaging for our various associations and their needs.
- Tailor messaging for various member segments including manufacturers, distributors, dealers, training organizations, business owners, and potentially enthusiasts.
- Collaborate with our Government Relations Office to translate complex policy material into clear, accessible, and compelling content that drives understanding and action.
- Collaborate with our Research and Statistics department to turn data into rich storytelling.
- Ghostwrite as needed for video scripts, articles, talking points, executive statements and quotes, etc.
- Assist with editing and proofreading of broader organizational communications.
- Participate as member of staff creative team when appropriate and perform other communications-related duties as assigned.
- Be willing to expand skill set (video or image gathering) to help the associations create more compelling content.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, public affairs, or related field.
- Five-plus years’ experience in media relations, public relations, or communications, with specific experience in writing, reporting, and editing.
- Must be a passionate motorcycle/ATV rider and/or ROV driver and must have knowledge and passion for the powersports industry.
- Exceptional attention to detail. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong command of voice and tone.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products, Mailchimp, Canva preferred.
- Ability to collaborate with a team as well as work independently.
Salary Range: $92k-$95k

The Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA) promotes the safe and responsible use of recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs) manufactured or distributed in the United States. ROHVA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop a standard for the equipment, configuration and performance requirements of ROVs. Based in Irvine, Calif., the not-for-profit trade association is sponsored by BRP, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Textron Specialized Vehicles, and Yamaha.
Since 1983, the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America® (SVIA) has promoted the safe and responsible use of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) through rider training programs, public awareness campaigns, and state legislation. SVIA also serves as a resource for ATV research, statistics, and vehicle standards. SVIA, based in Irvine, California, is a not-for-profit trade association sponsored by BRP, CFMOTO Powersports, Inc.; Champion, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki, Textron Specialized Vehicles and Yamaha.
