Overview

Accounting Specialist

Avalanche Harley-Davidson, one of the premier Harley-Davidson dealerships in the country, is currently seeking a full-time Accounting Specialist.  This position reports directly to the Controller and is a great opportunity for someone with an interest and passion for motorcycles.  The Accounting Specialist will perform accounting work of some difficulty and will be integral in maintaining a complete set of accounts and fiscal records to capture and summarize financial transactions.  Dealership accounting is deceptively complex and success requires in-depth knowledge of accounting theory, principles and procedures and the application of that knowledge within a well-defined standard system used by Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealerships.

Qualifications
The well-qualified candidate will possess a minimum of an Associates Degree with a major in accounting and at least five successful years of relevant experience.  Proficiency in the advanced use of accounting software and Microsoft Excel is a must.  Dealership experience and/or working with ADP Lightspeed software in a multiple entity environment will be an immediate advantage.  Candidates must be detail oriented and demonstrate an ability to work independently with minimal direction in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.  Strong communication, analytical and problem solving skills are also required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Resolve accounting issues as they arise in the daily processing of dealership transactions.
  • Prepare and review monthly trial balances and general ledger detail postings.
  • Investigate all anomalies or errors and prepare general journal entries to adjust accounts and reports to appropriate amounts.
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to general ledger control balances.

  • Examine and distribute vendor invoices and other payment requests to appropriate general ledger account classifications.
  • Issue checks for payment of inventory purchases, supplies, services and customer accommodations.
  • Assist with compiling information for payroll processing.
  • Comply with taxing authority regulations, including timely payments and deposits as required.
  • Act as back up for motor vehicle registrations, filings, payments and compliance.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare and distribute daily financial and statistical dealer management reports.
  • Assist with preparing statistical information for monthly dealer management reports submitted to Harley-Davidson and other external stakeholders.
  • Prepare special financial analyses as needed by management.
