SUMMARY: Responsible for managing all merchandising aspects of the Power Sports category to ensure growth in category sales and profitability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Responsible for increasing sales and gross profit of all products in the Power Sports category.
Recommends new vendors or new products from existing vendors in order to grow sales.
Recommends initial and ongoing product mixes for new market or category introductions.
Performs product line reviews and determines root cause of poor vendor performance.
Recommends discontinuation of poor performing products or vendors.
Recommends vendor consolidation or the addition of new vendors as appropriate to address problem areas.
Responsible for correcting return dollars and percentages that fall above company average by part type.
Provides merchandising input for the catalog, internet, and media advertising ensuring proper photography, accurate and appropriate copy, current application information, etc.
Works with Advertising, Marketing, Internet managers, Retail Managers on special events and retail displays.
Coordinates with the Marketing, Advertising, Operations, Purchasing, Accounting, Retail, Motor Sports, and Internet departments as required to plan and implement programs as required.
Recommends opening purchase order and initial stocking levels.
Knowledgeable of competitors, their sales channels, and products. Can recognize problems and opportunities and will take appropriate actions.
Ensures product pricing remains competitive.
Communicates with sanctioning, bodies, media, industry contacts, manufacturers, etc. to stay informed of changes that would affect the company and the merchandising area in particular.
Coordinates training with manufacturers as appropriate.
Attends major trade shows and events related to all markets and product segments to further refine assigned market.
Contributes product/market input to major company events and programs to ensure maximum impact and exposure.
Assists in new and existing market development activities, and participates in both long and short term planning.
Research vendor brand strengths (Google ranking).
Determine customer demand (est. sales potential).
Research forum participation by vendor.
Review methods of marketing.
Prepare reports and graphic illustrations of findings.
Understands the value of a business plan and contributes idea and information pertaining to assigned markets.
Research and analyze market conditions in local, regional, and national area to determine potential sales of products.
Have basic knowledge of PPC and SEO.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree or Minimum 3 years of experience in Merchandising, Marketing, or Product Development. Equivalent combination of education and experience. Power Sports industry experience required. Power Sports merchandising experience with a track record of developing new business and maximizing sales and profits of existing lines is helpful. Use of spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and presentation software such as Power Point required. Advanced Excel knowledge with the ability to perform the VLookup function, create Pivot Tables, charts and graphs.
Ability to read and interpret reports and numerical data. Ability to write reports, program justifications, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, or employees. Ability to read and interpret reports and numerical data.
