This position has the main responsibility to take product from proto stage to production through a technical capacity. Responsible for the consistent fit and construction of each garment enabling the vendor to produce the required design as submitted from development ideas.

These duties include but are not limited to the following specific responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the fit, grade and design integrity and timely execution of all products
  • Ownership of the fit sessions, organization, measuring and preparing fit samples, follow process, scheduling with all participants and planning fit model time. Has the authority to reject fit samples. Responsible for making detailed fit comments
  • Provides technical direction to the factories on corrective actions needed to bring samples to brand fit standards. Utilizes digital photos, written comments, pattern making to get clarity on comments. Build relationships with factories for quick response
  • Consistency of fit for each category and size range. Create templates and blocks for best execution
  • Develops, updates and routes technical packages that include size specifications, construction details, detailed sketches using illustrator, required for accurate, detailed costing and prototyping
  • Problem solve, work through any roadblocks that can affect poor fit/quality or late delivery and communicate to Product Development team
  • Issues grading guidelines to vendors after fit approval
  • Actively participate in fit evaluations and competitor analysis
  • Performs additional duties and assignments as requested
  • Very proficient in measuring and departmental organization


  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in Technical Design with an apparel company
  • Strong knowledge of garment fit and construction
  • Extensive computer knowledge (e-mail, Microsoft Office, Illustrator)
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Patternmaking background a plus but not critical
  • Extensive background in fit comments
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Proactive, finding solutions, adaptable to change


Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or comparable program
